June 1st, 2005: Summer Writing Institute for Teachers
EDIT 6/21/05: This Institute has been cancelled.
For many students, the opportunity to fill a page or screen is seen more as a chore or an intimidating mountain to climb. At the same time, as a teacher you're caught in the squeeze of meeting curricular requirements and wanting to help your students warm to the task. Now you can look forward to next year because this summer solutions are on the way.
The National Writing Project in Vermont and Marlboro College are combining resources for a week-long Writing/Teaching Institute for Teachers, K-12.
"Writing and Really Writing: An Exploration of Ways to Inspire Student Writers" will cover:
- Encouraging the reluctant student writer
- Responding to student writing
- Reading like a writer
- Writing on demand: expository writing, the SATs, the college essay, standards, and the grade expectations
- Writing for fun and profit
- Publishing student work
- Blogging
The Institute will be held at Marlboro College Graduate Center, Brattleboro, VT, June 27-July 1.
Sessions will be led by:
Dr. Laura Stevenson, Novelist for Young Adults, Professor of Literature and Humanities, Marlboro College
