Graduate Center Knowledge Shared at NHBSR Gathering
On May 7, educators and business owners were treated to some Graduate Center expertise. At a New Hampshire Businesses for Social Responsibility conference in Concord, New Hampshire, a panel on “Social Networking Tools” was moderated by Graduate Center Program Director Kevin Bell. Adding to the GC presence was panel member Michael Blair, a recent Grad Center alum, of Blair Technologies. Joining them on the panel were Neil Giarratana of Lucidus Corporation and Maryann Christiansen of the Hannah Grimes, both of Keene, NH.
During the presentation, the panel members elaborated on the significant value social networking tools holds for both educators and business owners. Such technologies as blogs, wikis, MYSpace, YouTube, and RSS feeds can empower users both with pedagogical applications and with broadcasting messages widely and inexpensively. Unlike the older technologies from which they sprang, these new avenues foster the generation of ideas and creative solutions as those in the network provide their observations and suggestions. At the same time, they give all individuals equal exposure and importance.
Unquestionably, such tools can give small businesses –especially those with limited staffs and budgets - a tremendous boost. The panel, stressed, however, that larger corporations who support the growing adherence to Corporate Social Responsiblity shouldn’t overlook them. Emphasizing sustainability, a core value of the Grad Center and the heart of our new MBA program, Kevin Bell noted that these networks “can highly impact the conservation of resources from budgets to the reliance on printed materials.”
